Enrichment Experiences

At Little Woodlands, we believe that learning extends far beyond the classroom. Our enrichment experiences are carefully woven into everyday nursery life, creating a hands-on and inspiring curriculum.

Through Forest School, children explore the natural environment, build resilience and develop confidence as they problem-solve and collaborate outdoors. This connection to nature continues through our Little Growers activities, where children plant, nurture and harvest produce, often linking directly to our Baking Club. Baking provides meaningful opportunities to develop fine motor skills, early mathematical understanding and teamwork, while fostering pride in achievement.

Creativity is nurtured through a wide range of artistic experiences in our Art Studios, allowing children to explore different materials and techniques while expressing themselves with confidence. Alongside this, our early STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) Discovery activities encourage curiosity, investigation and critical thinking through practical, hands-on learning.

Our Wildlife & Wonders programme provides children with meaningful opportunities to learn about and interact with animals and living creatures. This includes visits from organisations such as Guide Dogs, carefully organised external animal encounters and seasonal life cycle experiences such as observing caterpillars transform into butterflies.

Through these hands-on experiences, children develop empathy, respect and a deeper understanding of the living world around them. Communication underpins all of these experiences. Through the consistent use of Makaton, children are supported to express their thoughts, needs and emotions confidently, ensuring an inclusive environment where every child feels heard and understood.

Together, these enriched opportunities nurture independence, creativity, resilience and a lifelong love of learning.

Intergenerational Programme

We are incredibly proud of our intergenerational programme in partnership with Independent Living – Caring for You at Home. Members of their community visit our nursery to engage in shared experiences with our children. These visits may involve baking, creative activities, storytelling or seasonal celebrations, creating meaningful opportunities for connection across generations. This programme fosters empathy, communication and mutual respect, while helping children to develop a strong sense of community and belonging. The relationships formed through these sessions are both heartwarming and impactful, offering valuable social and emotional learning experiences for everyone involved.

Baby Classes

We are currently exploring options for introducing weekly baby classes at Little Woodlands. These sessions would focus on early brain development through carefully structured activities designed to support movement, communication and cognitive growth. We are looking into options and will share further updates with families as soon as plans are confirmed.

Sports Sessions

We are also exploring options for regular sports sessions. These sessions would be designed to promote physical development, coordination and teamwork, while helping children to build confidence and develop a positive attitude towards exercise. We look forward to sharing more details with families once arrangements have been confirmed.

Guide Dogs Visits

We are currently in discussions about building relationships with local Guide Dog trainers, with the hope of welcoming regular visits to Little Woodlands. Experiences like these help to nurture empathy, respect and an understanding of inclusion, while also building children’s confidence in interacting with animals in a calm and appropriate way. We look forward to sharing further updates once arrangements have been confirmed.
