Children's Wellbeing Programme

At Little Woodlands, emotional wellbeing is at the heart of everything we do. We understand that children learn best when they feel safe, secure and emotionally supported. Our bespoke Little Woodlands Wellbeing Programme has been carefully designed to develop emotional literacy, self-regulation and resilience from the earliest years.

Central to our approach is helping children to recognise, understand and manage their emotions. We use The Colour Monster as our core emotional literacy text, providing a consistent and relatable framework for discussing feelings. Through storytelling, role play, creative activities and reflective conversations, children learn to identify different emotions, understand that all feelings are valid and begin to develop strategies to manage them.

Our three state-of-the-art sensory rooms form a key part of our wellbeing provision. Each room has been thoughtfully designed to meet the developmental needs of babies, toddlers and preschool children.

These carefully curated environments provide opportunities for both calming and sensory stimulation, supporting children with regulation, focus and emotional balance. The sensory rooms are not simply additional spaces; they are purposeful tools within our curriculum, enabling children to explore their senses safely while learning how to reset and regulate their emotions.

Mindfulness is gently embedded into daily routines through breathing exercises, quiet reflection moments and guided relaxation. These practices help children tune into their bodies, recognise emotional changes and develop early coping mechanisms. By introducing these strategies in early childhood, we lay the foundations for long-term emotional resilience.

Our yoga sessions further strengthen this provision by promoting physical wellbeing alongside emotional regulation. Through stretching, balance and controlled movement, children develop body awareness, concentration and coordination. Yoga provides practical techniques to manage energy levels, reduce anxiety and build inner confidence.

Together, our emotional literacy work, sensory environments, mindfulness practice and yoga sessions create a holistic approach to wellbeing. The Little Woodlands Wellbeing Programme ensures that children are not only academically prepared for their next stage of education, but emotionally equipped to navigate the world with confidence, empathy and resilience.
