Nutrition
At Little Woodlands, we recognise the important role nutrition plays in a child’s growth, development and overall wellbeing. We are committed to providing balanced, nutritious meals and snacks that fuel children for a busy day of learning and play.
All meals are freshly prepared and thoughtfully planned to ensure they are varied, wholesome and aligned with healthy eating guidelines for early years. We aim to introduce children to a wide range of flavours and textures, encouraging positive attitudes towards food and supporting the development of healthy eating habits from an early age.
We don’t always offer pudding. Instead, we sometimes provide a healthy starter option as part of the meal, encouraging children to experience a balanced and varied approach to food.
We take dietary requirements and allergies extremely seriously. Individual dietary needs, allergies, intolerances, cultural preferences and medical requirements are carefully recorded and clearly communicated to all relevant staff. We work closely with parents to ensure that every child’s needs are fully understood and safely catered for. Alternative meals are provided where necessary and robust procedures are in place to prevent cross-contamination.
We also promote independence during mealtimes, encouraging children to serve themselves where appropriate, use cutlery correctly and develop good table manners. Mealtimes are seen as valuable social experiences, where children learn to share conversations, try new foods and build confidence.
At Little Woodlands, we believe that healthy bodies support healthy minds and we are proud to provide a safe, inclusive and positive approach to nutrition for every child in our care.
